How to Check Your Domain Transfer Status
When you're transferring your domain to Vivint Host, it's important to keep an eye on the transfer status so you know exactly where things stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you check your domain transfer progress and understand what each status means.
How to View Your Domain Transfer Status
To check the current status of your domain transfer:
- Log in to your Vivint Host account.
- Navigate to the Domains section from the left-side menu.
- Choose the All Products view located at the top right of the page.
- Find your domain in the list - its transfer status will be shown directly below the domain name.
What Each Transfer Status Means
Here's a breakdown of each possible status you might see, and what actions—if any—you need to take:
|
Transfer Status |
Explanation |
Action Needed |
|
Awaiting authorization code |
The transfer hasn't started yet because the domain’s authorization (EPP) code hasn't been provided. |
Request the EPP code from your current (losing) registrar. Once you have it, go back to your Domain List (All Products view) and select Authorize Transfer to proceed. |
|
Transfer will begin shortly |
The domain transfer has been initiated and is being processed by the domain Registry. |
No action is needed from your side. The process will automatically move to the next step. |
|
Awaiting release from previous registrar |
The transfer request has been approved and is waiting for your current registrar to release the domain. This usually takes 5 to 7 days. |
You don’t need to do anything at this stage. However, if you'd like to speed things up, you can contact your current registrar and request they release it sooner. |
Special Statuses for .UK Domains
If you’re transferring a .UK domain, the system uses specific transfer statuses. Here's what they mean:
|
Status |
Explanation |
Action Needed |
|
Verifying expiration date |
Our system is temporarily unable to retrieve the domain's expiration date from WHOIS. This usually resolves within 1 to 2 hours. |
Wait briefly; no manual action is required unless the status doesn’t update after a few hours. |
|
Awaiting email confirmation |
The IPS tag for the .UK domain hasn’t been updated. The tag must be set to NAMECHEAP-INC within 7 days or the transfer will fail. |
Contact your current registrar and ask them to update the IPS tag to NAMECHEAP-INC immediately. |
|
Registrar update is in progress |
This status means the .UK domain is in the final stage of transfer and is just waiting to be released by the current registrar (usually within 24h). |
No action needed unless the release is delayed; in that case, follow up with your current registrar. |
Transferring Out from Vivint Host?
If you're moving your domain away from Vivint Host, the transfer status won’t be displayed in your Vivint Host account. Instead, you’ll be able to track the transfer on the platform of your new registrar.
You will still receive email updates from Vivint Host informing you when the transfer is successfully completed or if it was rejected for any reason.
