How to Set Up Email Forwarding

Vivint Host provides free Email Forwarding for all domains using our BasicDNS, PremiumDNS, or FreeDNS. This feature allows you to create custom email addresses linked to your domain name and forward incoming messages to your preferred mailbox (such as Gmail, Outlook, etc.)

You can set up to 100 forwarding email addresses per domain.
Note: This feature does not create full email accounts or allow you to send emails from yourname@yourdomain.com. It is a forwarding-only feature. If you need a mailbox that can send and receive, we recommend upgrading to our email hosting service.

Important: You cannot use Email Forwarding and Private Email service at the same time.

Steps to Set Up Email Forwarding

To configure email forwarding on your domain, follow these steps:

1. Log In to Your Account

Sign in to your Vivint Host account.
(Click the Sign In button at the top of the page.)

2. Access the Domain Settings

  • Click on Domain List from the left sidebar.

Click the Manage button next to the domain name you want to use.

4. Choose Email Forwarding

  • Find the Mail Settings section.

  • From the dropdown menu, select Email Forwarding.
  • Click Save all changes.

Once you save, the correct MX records will be automatically added.

Note: The SPF record that appears is required for email forwarding to work. Do not remove it.

5. Add a Forwarding Address

  • Click the Domain tab at the top of the page.
  • Scroll down to the Redirect Email section.

Click on Add Forwarder.

6. Fill in the Forwarding Details

  • Alias: Enter the prefix of the email you want to forward (e.g., admin for admin@yourdomain.com).
  • Forward to: Enter the full destination email address (e.g., example@gmail.com).
  • Click the checkmark icon to save.

You can forward the same alias to more than one email address if needed.

7. Wait for Activation

Allow up to one hour for the changes to take effect.
Once active, you can start testing the email forwarding.

Note: If you send a test email from the same address that you're forwarding to, it may not be delivered. Use a different email address for testing.

Setting Up a Catch-All (Wildcard) Email Address

A catch-all email address captures emails sent to any address under your domain that doesn't already exist as a forwarder. This helps you receive messages even if the sender makes a mistake in the address.

Catch-all forwarding works only with one destination address and is available for domains using Vivint Host’s BasicDNS, PremiumDNS, or FreeDNS.

Before setting up a catch-all, make sure your Mail Settings are already set to Email Forwarding, as described in the steps above.

Steps to Set Up a Catch-All Email

  1. Sign in to your Vivint Host account.
  2. Go to the Domain List and click the Manage button next to your domain.

  1. Scroll down to the Redirect Email section.

Click on Add catch all.

Enter the destination email address in the Forward to field.

  1. Click the checkmark icon to save.

After saving, a confirmation message will appear.

Additional Notes

  • You can set up to 100 forwarding addresses per domain when using BasicDNS.
  • Catch-all emails can only be forwarded to one destination address.
  • When testing, avoid sending emails from the same address that you set as the forwarding destination. Use another address to verify that it's working.
