How To Fix The "Your IP Address Has Changed" Error In cPanel/WHM

Seeing the "Your IP address has changed" error when trying to access cPanel or WHM? Don’t worry-it’s a common issue with straightforward fixes. At Vivint Host, we help you troubleshoot this problem efficiently so you can get back to managing your hosting without delays.

Why Does This Error Occur?

This error typically appears when:

  • Your ISP assigns dynamic IPs, and your address changes mid-session.
  • You’re logged in from multiple devices (e.g., a computer and smartphone) simultaneously.
  • There’s a temporary network glitch affecting your connection.

While this isn’t a critical security threat, it’s cPanel/WHM’s way of protecting your account from unauthorized access.

Quick Fixes for the IP Change Error

1. Switch Browsers or Use Incognito Mode

  • Open a different browser (e.g., Chrome if you usually use Firefox).
  • Alternatively, launch an Incognito/Private window and try logging in again.

If this works, your original browser likely has cached session data conflicting with the new IP.

2. Clear Browser Cache & Cookies

  1. Close all browser windows completely.
  2. Clear your cache and cookies (check browser settings).
  3. Restart your computer and modem to refresh the network connection.

3. Restart Your Router/Modem

  • Power-cycle your modem/router to obtain a fresh IP from your ISP.
  • Wait a few minutes before reconnecting.

4. (For VPS Users) Adjust WHM Security Settings

If you’re on a VPS or dedicated server, you can disable Cookie IP Validation in WHM’s Tweak Settings. However, we don’t recommend this unless absolutely necessary-it reduces security against session hijacking.

Steps:

  1. Log into WHM → Navigate to Home → Server Configuration → Tweak Settings.
  2. Under the Security tab, find "Cookie IP Validation".
  3. Set it to "Disabled" → Click Save.

Need Further Help?

If the error persists, Vivint Host’s 24/7 support team is here to assist. Whether it’s a network issue or a server-side setting, we’ll help you resolve it securely.

Pro Tip: For long-term stability, consider using a static IP (if your ISP offers it) to avoid dynamic IP-related disruptions.
